JO and D Wade lead the way in win over Nets

The Nets weren’t lacking for intent on Monday night, but they were again missing execution.

And so there was nothing close to consolation in New Jersey’s 99-89 defeat to the Miami Heat the IZOD Center.

Maybe the Nets hadn’t been so worthy of an ‘E’ for effort in awhile. But at the end of the game, it was still another “L” for loss under acting coach John Loyer.

“I feel bad for them,” Loyer said. “But I told them they’ve got nothing to hang their heads about. They came against a playoff team and one of the elite players in the league, Dwyane Wade, and gave it everything they had.”

Wade led Miami with 27 points, while Jermaine O’Neal, making a return to the starting lineup after missing one game with a sprained ankle, added 25 points. The Heat pick up a key win in the Eastern Conference playoff race in the first of a three-game road trip. They maintained a one-game lead over Toronto for sixth place in the East.

“We want to get in the playoffs and we have to go to battle every night,” Wade said. “This week is very important for us.”

“We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game,” added Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. “You look at a team like the Nets and their record and you’re very deceived by it.”
