Those Mavericks fans hungry for a scoring center have had eyes for two O’Neals — Shaq, and newly minted Raptor, Jermaine.
(Hey, the Mavs did get Jermaine’s former coach.)
In his 13th season, Jermaine O’Neal is hoping to prove that injuries haven’t gotten the best of him. So far reviews are mixed. He is averaging 12.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks, good for 13th in the league.
He opened Wednesday’s game with a first-quarter swat of Erick Dampier and 12 first-half points.
“He’s a very underrated shot blocker and defender on the post, has the ability to switch out on the guards and keep them in front and contest,” said Mavs coach Rick Carlisle, who coached O’Neal for four seasons. “He’s a unique defensive weapon as well as being an All-Star offensive player.”
