Jermaine left Friday’s game against the Nets after being pulled down from behind by his Jersey by Sean Williams. The flagrant foul happened in the 4th quarter, ending Jermaine’s night. An evaluation revealed no structural damage, and that Jermaine suffered a strained left knee, the same knee that he underwent surgery on in Indiana that cost him numerous games in the past few seasons. Jermaine sat out Saturday’s practice, and attempted to play in Sunday’s game against the Celtics, but was forced to shut it down after just 14 minutes due to soreness. Jermaine doesn’t envision this injury costing him much time on the court, but rather his knee just needed more rest.
“I’m quite used to playing through it, but not quite with this type of turnaround,” JO said after the game. “With most injuries you have 48 hours to diagnose where you are at, and we did around the clock treatment over the last day or so. It started off good and the workout this morning went well, but you can’t substitute game situations with working out by yourself.”
He was also quick to point out that this injury is much less severe than the injury he sustained while with the Pacers.
“I knew I had a tear in it in Indiana. It was a situation where me and the team came to a conclusion that we were going in different directions and we were basically trying to keep it quiet. This time I had a little pinch, but it wasn’t anywhere near what I had in Indiana. Obviously if I had what I had in Indiana there would have been no way that I would have tried to play. All in all it was more that I just didn’t have enough time. If we would have played tomorrow I would have been good to go.”
Jermaine will continue to get treatment and is optimistic he will be ready to play when the Raptors host the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday.
