Q and A with Jermaine
Q: With you and chris there, do you think the Raptors will be a better defensive and rebounding team this season?
A: We can be really good in those areas, but every good rebounding team also has good rebounding guards. The rebounding responsibilities aren’t just for me, chris, Andrea, Humphries, and the other big guys. The emphasis on rebounding needs to be there for the small forwards and guards as well. We have to be able to get in there and rebound as a team. The focus in practice so far has been on defense and rebounding, so I think that mindset is being established early on, which is good. In practice guys have been locked in defensively, asking questions, talking, so that’s been impressive to see at this stage of the game.
Q: How will the Toronto’s Twin towers help the 3 point shooting for the Raps?
A: Teams are going to have to figure out where they are going to double from. Teams have to ask who they want to double, me or chris, but you really can’t come off of a guard on this team. It’s really a tough situation for teams to come up with a defensive scheme for us.
Q: How good do you think this Raptors team is?
A: We got a great team on paper but we have to continue to work. After training camp and after the preseason we’ll have a better view of where we are at, but as of now we look good.
Q: Have you been surprised with what Bargnani brings to the team?
A: He’s physically stronger and he’s a hell of a lot quicker than I thought he was, I haven’t seen a guy that size move that quick. His skill level was a lot higher than I thought it was, the things he can do at seven foot, being able to put the ball on the floor. It’s just my opinion, but if you keep him as a four (power forward) or five (centre), and him coming off the bench, there’s not a four or five in this league that could guard him.

Ive heard you lost weight to help, but can you tell me how YOU feel and what personal goals you have for the season (eg. finally taking the raps past say 2nd rnd playoffs, certain stats you would like to have, leadership role…)? In the past, Vince Carter and Steve Nash have hosted Charity Celebrity All-Star games in Toronto during Carabana Weekend. The fans would love to see something like that organized again. Could a JO Charity All-Star weekend be possible in the near future?
